A synthetic substance similar to ones found in marijuana stimulates cell
growth in regions of the brain associated with anxiety and depression,
pointing the way for new treatments for these diseases, according to
University of Saskatchewan medical research published today in The
Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Xia Zhang, an associate professor in the U of S neuropsychiatry research
unit, led the team that tested the effects of HU-210, a potent synthetic
cannabinoid similar to a group of compounds found in marijuana. The
synthetic version is about 100 times as powerful as THC, the compound
responsible for the high experienced by recreational users.

The team found that rats treated with HU-210 on a regular basis showed
neurogenesis - the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus. This
region of the brain is associated with learning and memory, as well as
anxiety and depression.

The effect is the opposite of most legal and illicit drugs such as
alcohol, nicotine, heroin, and cocaine.

"Most 'drugs of abuse' suppress neurogenesis," Zhang says. "Only
marijuana promotes neurogenesis."

I know all that stuff, son. And I wasn't trying to insult you. I've been
medicating myself for thirty years.

GUESS WHAT: Four three months in a row (sometime last year) I was legally
smoking INDICA for insomnia (working graveyard shift in a professional
print shop. (By the way I do not get stoned at all when smoking any mj).
I lost 30 pounds (160 pounds to 130 pounds on a 5´4¨ broad frame). Come
January I did show any fat on my body like I used to - but I felt much
smarter - and I had no idea what was happening. Now that I am doing
serious weight training for endurance I am very very strong as well and am
now 145 pounds - 15 pound increase in muscle - smoked ganja before taking
certification tests and passed all 4 the first shot and eat lots of ice
cream, butter, and try to drink non-tampered with milk and lots of whey
protein.

By the way the reason I believe I do not get stoned is because I am an
ambidextrous converted south-paw who can write, paint and hammer with both
hands and come from a very mixed ethnic background (Mostly Philippine
Malay-Polynesian, then German, and also English, Irish, Punjabi Indian,
Chinese, Negrito - aborigine from the Philippines, Turkish, and Eastern
American Indian). Folks think I am East Indian, American Indian,
Filipino, Japanese, Latino, Arab, Nepalese - I think you get the idea -
lighter brown skin that turns dark without sunburn when in the sun, dark
almond eyes, and dark brown/black wavy hair. I am 55 but folks think I am
40.

Just thought I might share my experiences.

Apologies. I was a wee bit too quick on clicking the send
