The yard is raked, It's starting to snow, I just hit up my collection
of state quarters and bought a pack of smokes, wife's in the shower,
sweet Melissa is playing games on one of the computers upstairs,
Samantha's watching TV in the living room, and I'm in the basement
with my one-hitter and trusty can of Glad Apple-Cinnamon air
freshener.

Baked and happy also.

I took Melissa, my 9 y/o, and her friend from next door to the Haunted
House last night. She has been begging me to take her for the last
week now. I was surprised by how very well organized it was. I think
it's run by high school kids. They are all dressed up as scary
characters and communicated with each other with those headsets with
the earphones and mics. The line was long, but they keep you
entertained by jumping out from behind bushes and generally terrifying
you while you wait. The little girl from next door got so scared that
she started crying hysterically. I had to call her mother on my cell
phone to come and get her. The poor little kid. I was trying so hard
not to laugh while comforting her until her mother got there. Turns
out this was her fourth time there and she still never made it into
the house itself. Melissa was more of a trouper. She was scared, but
she wanted to continue on. When we got to the gate we found that you
have to go through the graveyard before you can enter the house. It
was really dark. I started to feel a bit anxious. I can just imagine
what my 9 y/o felt. The monsters were sneaky little devils. They
would make the bushes on one side of the path move so you would think
that that's were they were going to jump out and then they would jump
out from the other side. Then this zombie came up right out of a
grave that was covered with dirt. I don't know how he was breathing
under there. That was it for Melissa. She said, "I don't want to go
in the house!" She even had an escape route planned. She had spotted
a gate in the fence and made a dash for it. I haven't had a laugh
like that in a while. Kids can be so damned funny sometimes.

Tokie Tokie back at ya.

wow, sounds like you had a great night being a dad.

I never thought kids would be like this... I get the feeling that I won
something every day just by looking at them!

Thanks for sharing the moment!

What kind of stuff ya got in your basement?
What kind of hobies ya got?

Yeah, kids can be a trip. They definitely keep you occupied.

When we had our first, Samantha, I was terrified. I was so scared
that I would inadvertently hurt her because she was so tiny. After a
while taking care of her became second nature. She is now 14 y/o and
is becoming a beautiful young woman. Where do the years go?

No problem.

Half the basement is finished. It has a bar, stereo, television, and
some furniture. My brother bought a new computer and was going to
throw his old one out. I took it and put it in my basement and put a
wireless usb adapter on it. I now have four computers scattered about
the house. I've thought about growing some herb down here, but with a
14 and 9 y/o that would be pretty much impossible without them finding
the plants.

I have a computer repair and service business. Most of my customers
are residential, but I do have contracts with some small businesses.
A lot of times some customers will buy a new computer and want me to
set it up for them. Some of them will ask if I want the old one
because they say they are just going to throw it away. I will take it
and fix it up and upgrade it and either keep it or give it to a friend
that can't afford one. Sometimes all they need is a new processor or
power supply. Occasionally they will need a new motherboard. Since
these are older computers (pentium II usually) I can usually find
cheap parts on ebay.

I left a chunk of hash in a Paris hotel hidden in a lamp shade once.
I didn't remember it until I was on a train headed for the riviera. I
was totally bummed out because I had nothing else for the head. I
ended up hooking up with a waiter in Canne who scored me another chunk
of hash. I was happy again.

You still doing the Violin thing, Jack?
Do you still keep in touch with the Baron? If so tell him I said hi.
