Hi, I tried posting about this at a few growers community message boards
(OG, HC etc), but still await any affirmative response. I'm in the process
of setting up my new growbox and mother/clone box, and have recently
purchased a couple of super-quiet 20w 100m Panasonic whisper-ceiling fans
(energy efficient), imported from the US (I'm in the UK) for this
operation. One is to be used as an intake fan for my growbox, the other as
an extraction fan for my mother/clone box. However, I've run into a slight
problem regarding the wiring.

The junction box on the fan has 3 wires coming out of the fan itself
(green, black and white), which I figure are connected to the capacitor.
But there is a second green (earth/ground) wire fixed (screwed) onto the
metal casing of the junction box, with the other end of the wire left
unattached to anything. Now I know what to do with the other 3 wires
comiong from the capacitor, but I'm lost as to what to do with this second
ground wire. Do I just connect it to the other ground (from the capacitor),
and join them both to the ground on the extension cord which will connect
to my voltage converter/power outlet?

Here's a link to one of the junction boxes, mentioned above -

If anyone can help me out here, I'll be so grateful. This is the last thing
I have left to setup, and I'm completely lost. I don't wanna go blowing
myself up or anything.

I'm no electrician, but as far as I know, a ground is a ground is a ground.
I'd just connect the two green wires together. You could try to find an
electricians forum, or maybe contact Panasonic if you don't want to trust
some anonymous pothead (why not?). BTW, I know the UK has a different wall
outlet voltage than the US, which can fry plug-in appliances, is this an
issue with these fans? Be careful, that electricity will kill ya right
quick!

Yup - case ground to mains ground alright. I too have concerns about the
running voltage of those fans. Are they direct mains powered? Our mains is
about twice the US mains voltage ya see.

I've managed to get advice from a couple of people in the know, and it
seems all the greens (grounds) together is correct (as you've both kindly
advised). As for the voltage matter, I'm planning on using a step-down
converter (240v down to 120v) for the fans. It's a pretty heavy duty one,
not one of these little £10 jobs. Designed for use with grounded
appliances, continuous use and anything up to 300 watts of power. Each of
my fans are only 20 watts, so 300 should be more than adequate I hope.

Thanks for your help, guys. Much appreciated

Peace

Heh, well I should know! Been working with electrics/electronics to at least
soime degree since I was a kid. ',;~}~
