Anything besides Antibuse To slow Drinking? HELP

| Hi, Is there anything besides Antibuse to slow my drinking? My Dr. wants
me at no more than 2-3 drinks. But sometimes I drink 6 a day. Anyone
know of any drug that can help keep a person from wanting/drinking more.
Than you . Dan

So to clarify, you are unable to control and enjoy your drinking?

Dan....Most people here won't take you seriously on that question, but
I will.
My current plan is to take Antabuse and only drink for "special
occaisons" for no more than 5 days at a time. I am able to drink after
being off of Antabuse for 3 days, but I only take it every 3 days.
It was working pretty well until I started suffering from depression.
And then to get temporary relief from the depression, I had to drink,
which led to several binges, one which was 10 days, a fifth a day. On
that one I had to de-tox myself, which is dangerous (chest pains, blood
pressure going wild, etc).
I'm having a difficult time getting help treating the depression as no
one seems to want to help as long as I won't abstain 100 %
If you are an alcoholic as I am, you have to face the fact that you
can't drink when ever you want to. Drinking 6 a day is about the
minimum to get any affect and still be able to be a functional
alcoholic. 2 - 3 is a waste of time.
If you want to quit than AA is probably a good idea, if you want to be
"Socially Re-engineered" and accept the barage of religion. My opinion
is that there are higher beings conducting this cruel "experiment" that
we call Earth....and they could care less about our well being ! This
mess we call civilization proves it !
My experience and opinion from 30 years as an Alcoholic.

will again.

I was thinking about getting a half case of beer last night just because my
son stayed an extra day at his mom's and I am off work today. I am glad I
don't feel like shit this morning. I about got this thing licked. I am glad
I didn't because I decided I am not going to drink this summer at all. Next
summer I will revisit my decision and if I decide to have as good a time as
I did last summer(I really did), I wont feel like I broke my word to
myself. My project for the next year is to develop some interests and
revise my lifestyle where I won't be able to fit drinking into it.

Good luck with your efforts! We're here if you run into trouble. I'd still
drink if it still did for me what it once did. That is, make me feel
happy, let me fit in, make 'friends', have a good time, not cause problems,
not get arrested, etc. And I tried every thing possible to recapture those
days. I varied amounts and type of alcohol, where and when I drank, etc. It
didn't work. I finally had to admit that ship had sailed.
I don't make long-range plans on not drinking. I can only live today today,
I can't live next Tuesday today, and I never think I have it 'licked',
because that sets me up for failure, since I'll stop doing the things that
led to success so far. This is true in almost any area of life: start
thinking it's easy and it will get difficult fast!
