Well dudes. i've not been posting for a while but saturday i celebrated my
fifth month of my sobriety and i am still not workinbg the steps. I'm
feeling good now but am suffering memory problems which I assume is my paws
but my moods are stable and usually good. hopefully I am over the worst and
maybe as i am feeling good I don't see the harm in doing step 4. oh well.
wish me luck.

Well I finished my step 4 last night. my sponsor is pushing me to do my step
5. I told him i'm going to do it bit by bit and with my father then he said
it should really be with another AA member. I don't see where it says that
in the rules. So i'll stick with doing it with my father and i'll only tell
what parts of me contributed to my alcoholism though my dad is aware of my
life story.

Just ignore the stupid comment. You are sober aren't you. That is what
counts.

Darren,

Unfortunately, life has taught many of us that we cannot save our XXX and
our face at the same time. I recommend you pick one.
Have you read the chapter "Into Action" in the big book? There not rules
..... there more like guidelines. I would suggest doing a 5th step with
your dad might be a bit selfish and manipulative....{Look Dad... see how
hard I am working! ... Aren't you Impressed!? ... and since we did that 5th
step stuff, I don't really have to do a 9th step right?}
If you are working with someone in AA you might bounce this idea off of
them first. If you are not working with someone who has already worked
these steps, I would ask you which step you read that said "I?"
"...It may be one of our own family, but we cannot disclose anything to
our wives or our parents which will hurt them and make them unhappy. We have
no right to save our own skin at another person's expense. Such parts of our
story we tell to someone who will understand, yet be unaffected. The rule is
we must be hard on ourself, but always considerate of others. ...(chap 6)"
I think the "yet be unaffected" part here might be important.
"... half measures availed us nothing. ...(chap 5)"
I suggest you find another to discuss those things you do not discuss with
your father. We have found we are only as sick as our secrets.... BUT we
are Just As Sick as our secrets.

Your will, your way, Darren? How do you think you got where you are in
the first place? Let go of the control factor and let your Higher
Power drive the bus for awhile.

I go for both.

Exactly!

Not at all. If i'm to do my step 5 which is only a guideline and not a rule
then i'll do it with someone close who I'm at ease with. It's the one way
that I can face it

Youy don't have to do any of them but I did steps one and two before I
walked in AA'd door

The one that said, "I" am giving up drinking so that "I" so I may live.

It's not a rule, just a suggestion and I will be affected if I share it with
someone i'm not close too.

It's not a half measure.

Our secrets are secrets for a reason.I am not sharing all my secrets, just
the ones that led to my alcoholism.

I hoped my higher powers would pay my bills for me but when the red letters
came I guessed it wasn't going to happen.

I once thought I had all the answers, today I know I do not.

Let me know how this all works out.
