Going by the number of AA members religiously popping anti
depressants, while boasting of being sober, there may well be
causation as well as the correlation.

well that's fine then I guess I should work on a med cocktail to
keep me sober...maybe 1 part ssri, 1 part benzo, 1 part pain med...
wash it down with a light beer and call myself cured.

there is NO validity to the use of antidepressants to "control"

antidepressants ARE however, used quite successfully for the
treatment of obsession!

OK. So, if someone for whom drinking has become an obsession takes
anti-depressants they could find themselves relieved of that obsession
?

exactly...if taking an ssri helps stop the obsession of drinking
too much (going over the line) then why is that not a good thing?
I like the way the ssri slows my drinking down.

PS: Your comment has given me cause to think that someone who takes
antidepressants in order to try to stop themselves drinking what they
think is too much for them, may one day come to fear that if they come
off their ads then they could again start drinking too much. Maybe
it's not always a good idea for a person to trade an obession they
have with one form of drug for one with another.

So James, are you still drinking? If so, do you take anti-depressents along
with the drinking?

I admit that I am, and that I do, and that it feels good. Sorry, I know
you do not want to hear that, or that I define sobriety as a 12 pack
of light beer every night. When I went through rehab 10 yrs ago, I
learned
that many in AA were "pill poppin' sons o bitches" (sponsors words)
and that half a bottle was better than a whole one.

james,
i hope that you know that mixing your antidepressants with alcohol
can be dangerous!
it is also believed that drinking while being on antidepressants
render them useless.
i remember the obsessing i did over my drinking...........was there
enough in the house? when shall i start drinking today? should i
invite someone over so i can start at lunchtime?
that obsession left me after i got to AA (1982) and sobered up.
after five years of sobriety (1987) i had to go on antidepressants,
and have heard over the years folks making snide comments regarding
my sobriety, its nonsense!
if we got high on SSRI'S it would also be a street drug with some
value, don't you think?
i hope you find what your after, and i hope that happens for you
before its too late.

Some anti-depressants - including one which is an SSRI - are already
traded on the black market:
"Prozac is coming onto the black market but only sold with MDMA, it's
the chaser for those who know. Kind of like T's and R's
tuinol and ritalin, two prescription drugs that are sold together.
Driggies who buy MDMA and Prozac are attempting to avoid the
neurotoxic effects of the MDMA." (Source: Newsgroups:
alt.support.depression)
"Even though Prozac is available legally through medical prescription,
both Prozac and Ecstasy are used recreationally to enhance feelings of
happiness and pleasure." . (Source:

JB,
in the USA selling drugs "to get high" (street drugs) is different
than buying them on "the black market".........

Black Market - 1. a. any system in which goods or currencies are sold
and bought illegally, esp. in violation of controls or rationing.
(Source: Collins English Dictionary)
If in the USA it is legal for someone who has been prescribed ad's to
sell them to someone for whom they are not prescribed only then there
is no black market trading in ad's I do not expect you to agree with
my view.

I'd highly recommend lots of cheap vodka when you're
crashing off of Prozac. You'll be doing all kinds
of wild and crazy things but how crazy depends
on weather you like hospital food to jail food.
