| I have been back in AA for four months after a two year relapse. I am
not having a hard time staying sober, I am having a hard time staying in
AA. I go to three different groups at the suggestion of my sponsor and
feel out of place at all of them. Especially the one that is
unofficially christian.
I turn my life over to hp, work with my sponsor and go to meetings. I am
doing it by "the book". But something is missing. It has gotten where I
dread going to the meetings. I seem to watch the clock the whole time.
I wasn't expecting a pink cloud but honestly I thought I would feel
better than this.
My name is on the waiting list for HAPPY, JOYOUS AND FREE. lol
any suggestions?

The big honest question you have to ask yourself is, "is this the place
for me?"
I've been clean/sober now for 13yrs, and in the last 6yrs can count on
one hand how many meetings I've been to. It's not that it "wasn't" for
me, it just doesn't quite work for me to feel fullfilled.......I
actually felt better when I was not at meetings. I kinda understand how
ya feel, it's not for everybody. Just get honest with yourself and
answer that question. Yeah, yeah.....there will be those who will say
that you don't know what's best for ya and yaddy yah yah.....but you
also cannot live a lie because you're not being true to yourself.
Don't get me wrong I am by NO MEANS an anti-AA'er, I loved the people I
was involved with when I was there, but you have to really think about
what it is that really bothers you about AA.....Maybe it's just the
people, who knows? Only you can answer that. Maybe you're just feeling
ashamed at the moment or embarrased because of your relapse, who knows?
Explore a little more & see what happens....believe me you won't be
damned for all eternity if AA might not be for you.

Anyone, including you, can pretend to be in anything here. If you
really want to restrict input to those in AA, why not ask at AA?
However, being a recovered alcoholic, and ex AA, it does interest me
as to which book is supposed to instruct you to "turn my life over to
hp, work with my sponsor and go to meetings."?
Why don't you just take the simple program of recovery
http://anonpress.org/bb/Page_59.htm still suggested by AA? No mention
there at all of either sucking up to a sponsor, or attending boring
meetings!

Many.
When I first started AA in Houston I was trying to share my experience
of being kidnapped by the secret service and something stuck in my back.
I heard and talked with people like Tom Clancy. who wrote the book "Hunt
for Red October", and Ann Richards who later was elected Governor of
Texas. They are con people and do not know the postion you are in.
I was told that I did too many drugs and that if I worked the steps I
would be happy joyous and free.
I saw many people come and go and alot of people were happy when I was
miserable.
Now I found out that it was George Bush who kidnapped me and the secret
service were only there because he was the son of the head of the CIA
and Vice president. And I was drugged and interogated by the
vicepresident and Richard Nixon looked on. I have lost coordination and
by balance is woozy. I will never be the same but I cannot talk about
this in public because of the FEAR I will be committed. Unless I can get
legal representation. I also have received evidence that my family
started the US with George Washington.
If you want to stay sober more than anything else you can. With humility
comes strength and you will be given information when you can handle it.
I am still not happy joyous and free the way I want it but it is better
than drinking because drinking will loosen up my inhibitions and I will
be accused of being crazy and forced or coerced to take drugs. This
already killed my brother and another brother is now addicted to harder
drugs that the government coerced him into taking. Another brother is
ready for death and people are being readily abused by the government.
IF your chance of making it is slim to none take the slim.
And XXXX the people that tell you to drink. They are most likely
capitalist scum sucking maggots and are deluded psychopaths who will
kill people at any opportunity.

FWIW, I do not believe it possible for many people who are either in
recovery from alcoholism or have recovered from it to
never have days - or parts of days - when they feel low/fed up/down in
the dumps. When I get days like that, often I find it helpful to do
something that could lead to my mood being lightened. From
experience, I've learnt that if I merely sit around feeling sorry for
myself, most likely I'll make myself feel a great deal worse.
FWIW, when I was about 4 months into sobriety, I started work on my
Step 4 inventory. That work got me feeling down for days at a time
for some four months and during that time I sometimes thought that if
this was as good as my sobriety was ever going to get, I wanted none
of it.
It's been a year since those dark days were upon me and because of how
my life today is I can tell you, truthfully, that I am very glad that
I did not use those dark days as an excuse to start drinking again
:^)
FWIW, I used to go to 2 AA meetings a week but found one so boring
that after regularly dozing off in it, I thought it best to stop going
to it.
In my journey to recovery, I have found regularly listening to the Big
Book Study tapes featuring Joe and Charlie in addition to reading the
BB and other AA literature, posting to this NG, working the Steps and
occasionally dropping in on an on-line AA group to be of great benefit
to me. Recently, I've discovered the book "Living Sober" to be also of
help to me.
Wishing you well.

| I don't really have much of a tough time staying sober either. The tough
time I have is stopping drinking once I've started. Perhaps, I'm lucky, but
my local meetings are quite good. They're fairly small, but there's one guy
who's the same age as me, with a similar drinking history and similar
interests. He's been in AA for 4 years compared to my 6 months. I've learnt
quite a bit from him. Anyway, my suggestion is that you carry on going to
the meetings, it's gotta be better than drinking

| Hi - May I suggest that you be a bit more patient. The twelve promises will
come true for you if you work at it. Take personalities out of the equation.
Do not confuse AA with the people in it. Go to meetings selfishly for
staying sober and for what YOU can get out. Get a different sponsor till you
feel happy with one.
Kind regards
Mias
