| Five of us really like the "Joe and Charley" tapes but we couldn't find a
group that uses them for BB discussion so we started a new group of our own.
One of the guys found us a church that would let us use a room and tonight
we're having our second meeting.
If you don't like the meetings you're going to, start your own. <grin>

Dan- My neighborhood Alono Club has recently begun holding a meeting with a
similar format. I haven't tried it yet, but thanks for reminding me of it
through yours.

| I'd like to hear how this group works...do you play some of the tape at each
meeting? Do you have a speaker also?

I've been using the Joe and Charlie "Journey to Recovery" tape set for
over a year and have learnt from them far more about Dr Silkworth's
theory and the 12 Steps than I have from any f2f meeting. Therefore,
if I could get to your meetings, I would try to do so.

Steve,
I enjoy the Joe and Charley tapes but sometimes I have to laugh. If
Joe talks that way now that he's sober, can you imagine trying to understand
him when he was drunk and really slurring his words. <L>

Alice,
No, we don't have a speaker. We play about 20 to 30 minutes of tape,
depending on where a logical stopping point might be, and then use that as
the topic for a discussion group. Depending on everyone's availability, we
may have to start limiting time because last night we were still talking
when the meeting had been on for an hour and a half. Some people just want
a one hour meeting, period, but all of these troops were still into it.
For just our second official meeting, though, we had already grown by a
couple of members and we are told that more are coming next week, so if we
start getting a large crowd there may be less time for "give and take" and
exploring comments and thoughts.
All in all, so far it's my favorite meeting.

Well, it'd be kinda a long and wet drive from the UK, but you'd be welcome.

You think I'd drive when a plane could get me to where you are so much
more quickly ? :^)
BTW, will any refreshments you serve include your home-made blueberry
muffins (Yum Yum) :^)

Yes, we are following boarding house rules: "From each according to
ability. To each according to his reach." <L>
