My copy doesn't say anything about carrying the message to Martians. My copy
says, " to carry this message to alcoholics". Pretty specific if you are
reading it as a contract - and it seems obvious that the "only" is implied -
especially when read in the context of our 12 Traditions. The spirit of
Alcoholics Anonymous is to help alcoholics recover from alcoholism. But
this is a self-interpretive program so you can read it any way you like.

Dual addicted, cross addicted (whatever an alcoholic/addict calls
themselves these days), beware, stars will be handed out at the entrance
doors and must be displayed at all times........

I'm glad to see these really important questions discussed. Let's
hope a Martian doesn't show up at an AA meeting. On the other hand,
some drunks may have seen Martians. We had a guard at the door of
every AA meeting checking credentials. We called him/her a greeter
but you know we always required some ID and some proof that the person
was indeed an achoholic and not some dude/dudette trying to slip in
and spy on us. Some of the folks in Dallas (when I was there) didn't
like atheists or agnostics either. They didn't block them at the door
but they spent some time trying to insult them in open meetings. Made
for good unity.

Best,
GaryE

Who said anything about AA meetings?
We were talking about carrying the message. Or at least I was. (One perk of
jumping into a thread in the middle is defining the topic however you like.)

Although irony in context of this discussion may elude him, I very much
doubt Michael Jackson would care to admit how revealing his lyrics
ultimately proved to be. "We are the world, we are the children"
Singleness of purpose, indeed!

True. There should be 'carrying of the message' in AA meetingss.

But only in AA meetings?
And what is the message anyway?

That's what Scrooge said before he saw the light.

Ted, I figure it this way. If AA only has a 5% 'success rate" then
that probably means the God deal only has a 5% success rate. AA is
about the God deal first and foremost, right?

The lights are out, the party's over.....

I thought the candlelight meeting thread was a different one...
