Well I flipped the coin and finally dropped MS from the sets upstairs.

Theres a friend of ours that has never seen the inside of a screen before
excepting on the Telly.

He is getting a 7 yr old kludger with one of th eolder knoppix installed.
Plus a whole heap more .

If he asks for windows, I have a legitimate 98 I can thorw into it. For
256 ram it is a real muckmaggot of a snail.

Cheers
From up the stairs - on Mepis I think :-)
Welll its on Pan anyway

If it's got 256MB and at least something in the neighborhood of 350MHz,
have a go with Zenwalk. It's a minimalist Slackware based distro, but
with all a newb would need. I really like it.

Yeah, or even sumpin like that stripped down Debian I did on that AMD
K-5 fer old Jack upstairs. It only had 256 meg memory, and was slow
compiling the gnu 2.4.27 kernel I did fer it to get it lean mean 'nd
green, but for anything other than CPU intensive stuff it do right well
wiff the XFCE winder manager on it. Won't handle DVD movies, but does
well on cdrom or dvd muzak and streamen media mp3. It a totally
wireless 'chine 'nd he got's it on a big roll around microwave table
what he kin jest drag around and plug and play where ever he got a power
outlet and room what sumbuddy ain't occupying to plant he big butt.
