I'm a seven, tops. I've never had a sponsor, so that automatically
excludes me from the higher grades. But I drive a large, German-made saloon.

See, on a scale of *all things sober*, I would assume any number on that
scale actually qualifies as being sober in some form or another.
The "anything less than 10 just isn't sober" is a little too Sarge-like for
my tastes.
I'm aiming for a lowballed, but very solid "1".

Well for me being sober means no alcohol, drugs, mind alterting
substances for the purposes of being high and or drunk and things of
the like...and if I'm dabbling in any of those just a little I'm not
sober...so not a 10 and therefore relapsed...if I'm contributing to
behaviors that I shouldn't be, allowing them to happen when I shouldn't
be and they will cause harm to me or others immediately or down the
line then I'm not practicing my principles in all my affairs...I
consider them different but I learn something new everyday so I'm
open...

It means that for me as well. Sort of. I define "sober" as absitnance from
alcohol. So I am sober. I define "clean" or "straight" from ilicit drugs
who's ingestion is for the purpose of getting high. So I am also clean and
straight.

Well, if I was dabbling in any of those, I might be sober, but not clean, or
straight, but not sober....but I'm sober clean aqnd striahgt so I don't have
to worry.
>`.so not a 10 and therefore relapsed..
Again, this is what doesn't make sense. A"how sober are you 1-10?" doesn't
seem to translate to "if you're not a 10, you're not sober at all?"
First off, my take was that it was a joke. A spoof of the old "I'm more
sober than you are" game so often played in different groups. If it wasn't a
spoof, then (gasp) it must have been a version of the real thing. yikes.

To me, if anything, this is what would determine where on the spectrum of
sobriety one would fall....and none of the numbers 1-10 would entail a drop
of alcohol or a grain of drugs to ever be ingested.

Do you smoke? Nicotine is a drug.
Do you drink coffee? Caffein is a drug.
When you get a headache do you take aspirin or tylenol? Those are
drugs.
Do you wear suntan lotion or use any makeup? Those are drugs.
Do you eat food? All food contains a minute amount of natural
alcohol. Therefore food is a drug.
Do you go to church? Religion is a drug.
I bet you do at least some of these things. Therefore you are NOT
sober !!!!!!

Hah...well I'm a saint and therefore wearing the armor of God so I'm
evil proof...
I believe being open leaves me teachable, something I learned in my
wee-time around these rooms ... and all that you said spells out
sobriety to me which, to me, is very different than being sober, so I
reiterate being open to others ideas and suggestions...don't interpret
that wrong, I'm only open, not agreeing...I do listen well and when I'm
wrong (which is often) I try to readily admit it...
And if this whole question was a joke than I readily admit that I have
much much to learn, especially in time wasted

I understood the question similar to how Tara took it, Tara.
It's kind of a fool's errand to label certain brands of
sobriety either/or - good or bad. Speaking for myself, I have
had some very shitty days in sobriety. And I've had some
mediocre days, some passable days and some really
outstanding days as well. I've even had a few days that I'd
say approached pure bliss. Do I keep track of each day
differently? I mean, do I subtract for the shitty days and
get double credit for the outstanding ones? Or do I count
them all the same? It's all good sobriety to me, Tara. I don't
spend too much time sorting through and comparing
'barely sober' to 'quality sobriety'. But that's me.

I'd have to say I am a 10. I used to be a six, but then I found out
that humility was a conerstone of sobriety so worked and worked until I
became at least a hundred times more humble than anyone else I know...
so now I have maximum sobriety.
I am so damned sober that no amount of drinking could negate it. Not
like some poor folks down at the 1-4 range of sober who lose their
sobriety date just from a sip or two of communion wine.

Well, many active alcoholics stop getting drunk from ingesting alcohol (thus
the dynamic of them drinking more and more in a desperate attempt to feel
the effects)
Caffeine is higly physically addictive, and in coffee form, the *only*
reason you're probably drinking it is for the effect it has on your mood.
So: highly addictive substance, only ingested for its mood altering
purposes. Hmmmmmm.
See, you *do* believe in the "outside issues" part of AAs take on sobriety
after all.
> Yes I do...again I get no high from them
You're taking a mood altering drug solely for its desired effect though.

What exactly is this about? If you are refering to my other post
than you'll see I was only inquiring why AA has made a point to put
itself right in the middle of many outside issues...for myself I've
very involved in outside issues, I just don't bring them to the

Well then a 10 here as well.
I turn 45 this year. Debt is under control - credit cards are paid and
I can make ends meet 'without' any overtime whatsoever.
Oldest boy is 18, just earned his 2nd degree black belt (Tae-kwon-do)
and graduated from high school.
Youngest boy turns 15 next month and finished the school year with a
much higher GPA and attitude than he started (lets hope it bleeds into
next year). He has been making little videos and cartoons on the
computer and is showing some real talent.
The missus and I just celebrated ou 19th wedding anniversary and she is
as lovely and delightful as the day I married her.
My job doesn't suck and at my last physical the doctor commented that I
was very healthy.
Thanks for clearing that up, Tara, I am feeling much better now.

I thought clean meant 'well washed' and straight is what our politicians are
supposed to be. You Usians are so quaintly hit and miss in your usage of
the Queens English.
I have to get injected with Valium when I'm going under. Well I did have to
several years ago. No anaesthetist would chance the heavy shit and I won't
take gas. Now I can tell you that a prod of the tiniest amount of this
stuff into the drip was mindaltering, for about three tenths of a second,
thats as long as I can remember being 'there'. He could have cut my thing
off and I wouldn't have minded. Breda would, but I wouldn't have.
Anyway, I was pretty clean, straight and sober when I woke up I can tell
you, even my bum hairs were gone. Plus, well the rest can wait till I show
you my scars.. :-))

Yes, I know what a saloon type of vehicle is, Stuart. I was just being
sarcastic.
I didn't know that factoid about the 'Cudas. I used to have a 65 'Cuda,..the
ones with the immense rear window. It only had a 273 V8, though. More than
enough power to still get me into a heap of trouble.

My source is "Hot Rod" Magazine. How they got there was because American
Servicemen stationed in Germany would ferry them over, then sell them there
rather than to pay to ship them back, especially after 1974 when gas prices
were going thru the roof domestically.
In fact there are muscle cars of all descriptions all around the world
wherever American servicemen were stationed at the time.

Nice Joe! I'd have to say I'm a 6 1/2 to a 7 right now, which is
much better than the 4 or 5 I was a couple weeks ago because God just
keeps opening doors for me and I just keep faithfully walkin through
them...it's a good deal all around...I'm faithful he protects...as
Bruce Almighty would say "It's good"...lol

Barf.

Sorry. I'm hungover today. I *thought* that O'Douls I was drinking last
night was the real thing, and well, you know what happens...

*I* for one am relieved. I've been having a recurring dream (nightmare
actually) about finding something in the White Pages. There's this
short ghostly figure (unconscious manifestation of someone from this
n/g?) that keeps whispering to me over and over "you'll find what you
seek in the White Pages" but when I open the phone book, all I see, on
each and every page is tedw with no phone # or address but rather little
pictures of Satan sipping wine from a silver goblet.
Maybe now I can switch to dreams of how high up on the scale, happiness
is to be found.

Yeah, if a drunk like you thinks there's alcohol in it, you drink a coupla
cases.
You sure the Missus approved that kind of expenditure? I mean, you do only
drink the cheap stuff, but still....
