The opposite of the religious fanatic is not the fanatical atheist but
the gentle cynic who cares not whether there is a god or not.
Eric Hoffer (1902 - 1983)

When I told the people of Northern Ireland that I was an atheist, a
woman in the audience stood up and said, "Yes, but is it the God of
the Catholics or the God of the Protestants in whom you don't
believe?"
Quentin Crisp

I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.
Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)

They were so strong in their beliefs that there came a time when it
hardly mattered what exactly those beliefs were; they all fused into a
single stubbornness.
Louise Erdrich

Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit
atrocities.
Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

As I'll be in Ireland next month, this reminds me. I've always thought it
an exceptionally good idea to wear a t-shirt that says "I hate catholics"
on one side and "I hate protestants" on the other. This way, from either
direction I'm facing, I'll get a response. Of course there's another way
to survive in Ireland. Wear a t-shirt, "Don't shoot me, I'm not Catholic"
on one side, and "Don't stab me, I'm not Protestant".

More than one religion in the room? A lot of the religions like to use
the "One true path" quote to say their way is the only way. Fortunately
for those with some level of intelligence, noticed first is that religion
is not mentioned. Then followed is the idea, "Who am I to think my way is
so much better than all others that I'm promised rapture/eternal life/ a
"I got out of life easy" t-shirt?

Whatever you wear for XXXXs sake Joe don't wear pink slacks or green check
ones, they'll know immediately you're a wanker.

As far as getting shot mate, we don't do guns here, whether Catholic or
Prioddy.

If you're one of the ones getting your info from usenet, well what can I
say. We don't have thatched houses, or red buses, or horse and carts.
(That is a little bit of alie, we have these special built villages to try
to con some dollars out of our visitors)

And we do even welcome errh yanks:-))

Don't you dare come over without calling me.

+353 872761841 is my mobile phone and I leave it switched on until about
midnight.

011 3531 4628006 and leave a message on the answering machine with a number
for me to contact you, Phone calls are dirt cheap here now. Its a little
perk we have because we are the switching post from Europe/Asia to the West.
The lines are already there, and are ours to begin with. That plus my
S-in-law runs a telecom firm and rents lines out.
