About 83% of Finns are members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of
Finland. Most only go to church when someone is christened, gets married

Ice fog. They get it in Alaska, but I'm only presuming FInland gets it in
the far north.

Ice fog is any kind of fog where the droplets have frozen into extremely
tiny crystals of ice in midair. Generally this requires temperatures at or
below minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-35C), making it common only in and near
the Arctic and Antarctic regions. It is most often seen in urban areas
where it is created by the freezing of water vapor present in automobile
exhaust and combustion products from heating and power generation. Urban
ice fog can become extremely dense and will persist day and night until the
temperature rises. Extremely small amounts of ice fog falling from the sky
form a type of precipitation called ice crystals, often reported in Barrow,
Alaska. Ice fog often leads to the visual phenomenon of light pillars.

Oh, okay, thanks for the info. I don't think we get that one. Might be
due to the fact we don't have larger urban areas up North. I spent one
winter in the military service in a place called Sodankylä some 130
kilometers North of the Polar Circle. The temperature would go quite low
(-40C) but I don't recall ice fog. Of course it was pitch dark for 22
hours a day so I might just have missed it. ;-)

Update: apparently we do get them in the cities, but mostly we get
"diamond dust" instead. I've seen halos dozens of times but never knew
the phenomenon was called ice fog in English. You always learn...

You must mean the Swedes. They insist on eating the dried cod which they
first soften in lime water (the caustic soda kind, not the green citrus

Lutefisk is great if it's cooked properly. I prefer it with a bit of
butter, instead of the traditional white sauce.

Cooked improperly, lutefisk turns into a stomach turning, gelatinous
mass.

Yeah, living in close proximity to Waco which is one of the manufactured
home centers of Tejas as far as the industry goes and being associated
with quite a few people employed in the field, along with a lot of truck
drivers who hauled them all over th continent, plus being privy to the
difficulties a lot of my military compatriots who choose to have their
homes hauled from one base to another rather then buying, renting on the
economy or using government housing and quarters, I became acquainted
with the different requirements and standards they were built to or
required to be built to. and there isn't a whole hell of a lot of
reciprocity like in professions. ;-)

I'm not gonna take a weed whacker to that Warner Fellow though. He's

It's such a traditional Christmas-time meal in Swedish households that my
brother figured out how to do lutefisk-for-one in the microwave, since he
couldn't find anyone else in his family who would eat it.
