Unnnh, Soak em over night, drain and rinse, put em in a pressure cooker and
cook the hell out of them. ;-)
Or then there is a Charlie method that involves quick cook by boiling for a
specified period, letting stand and then drain and rinse, then putting them
in the slow cooker and forgetting about them until the slow cooker softens
and melts down.
Then there is ball peen hammer...

Yeah. The longer they cook, the tenderer they get. Just stop when
they're to yore liking. And don't add salt until the end.

Microwaves are great for quick-soaking beans - boil & drain
repeatedly until they split (usually about 1.5 hrs) - then cook 'em as
you normally would.

If it ain't cooked in a pressure cooker it ain't really stew
either...a crockpot will do in a pinch but it ain't the real deal.
Pinto beans are best cooked then taken out in the backyard and buried
for six weeks and forgetting to draw a map helps in there flavor too.

Well, I'm not sure that 'cooking' and 'microwave' belong in the same
sentence - but microwaves do heat things, and they do a good job of
boiling things from the inside out, in the few instances that this
would be desirable.
I'm always amazed at how my really good, fresh ground coffee is
somehow completely demasculated by reheating it in the nuker...

See they should be nice and tender by now. But guess what , they ain't.
Geez what's a guy supposed to do? ;o( I mean it's got good flavor but the
beans are not tender enough, I mean they are like got a shield coat over
them. If that makes any sense to ya, guess you had to of been there. Well
anyways I added 2 cups of water and turned up the heat, who knows maybe in a
nother hour they will be tender. ;o)

Still fine here although I really just don't have the *heart* fer all this
shit. Barometer is down to 29.76 which is on my spacey, ischemic, hypoxic
side, and falling, so I may have to seal things down and pressurize the
cabin here shortly. May be a lil thinking impaired fer a couple of days so
may experience sum keyboard lockups. If I can find room in the closet for
it. ;-)

Don't try to hang that on me now, Charlie. I know plenty about both
of those subjects.
To make authentic kimchi, you need to pickle Korean cabbage & Korean
chili peppers in brine, in an earthen crock, covered with sackcloth
and buried in the ground for about six weeks - depending on climate.
When you lift the stuff out of the ground it should smell somewhere
between dead animal and a goat fart. It should taste roughly like it
smells.
The 'AD' method.
Which reminds me - next time I feel inclined to waste a perfectly
brilliant pun on the likes of you Neanderthals, remind me to take the
dogs for a long walk.

See. What I say. Hey. He waste a whole damn paragraph on recipe, taste and
smell and say not one damn word on the Tradition, Ceremony and Social
Implications surrounding. Tim/Lisa, I take back some of the Barbaric part
that was directed at you guys cause you was at least a lil poetic and
festive in your bean making ceremony so I'm sure you prolly have some
potential to rise above bed, butt and belly, but this Nipper here. Sheesh!
Mentions microwaves and food in the same sentence. Hopeless! Spork advocate
to boot, not to mention posting pictures of salamander intimacies and simply
seeing it as sex and nadda damn thing about love, honor, devotion,
dedication and commitment. ;-)

My mom's brother, my uncle, the merchant seaman would bring some when
he hit town on his motorcyle or old pick-up before heading out to the
desert to partake in his 2nd love. I say my mom's brother because I
wouldn't want to confuse him with my dad's brother and have him rise
from grave to haunt me...nasty shit. Of course that is only my opinion
based on my taste buds. He also introduced the hicks to other delights
too...some tasty and some not so tasty. I remember him always bring
some whole craps (monsters back then) wrapped in butcher paper. My
sister and I would play with then like toys and then the adults would
eat them later....I could eat them but never really developed a taste
for them either.
I never quite got the taste for pinto beans....Red kidney beans in
chili made in the pressure cook and Red beans with ham spread over
bread after being cooked in the PC where things to run home for when
they were ready when I was a kid.
We never had okra or egg plant in our house because of pops, but the
neigbhor lady with a dozen kids or so had a hughe garden out of
necessity back then and I really did like the batter-dipped egg plant,
the okra could go the buried without a map routine though.
Might be the sterotype because of my dad being irish but I ate
tatter's at just about every meal cooked in a variety of ways.

But of course - how could I be so stunted, so haplessly remiss - I
should have detailed the spectacle of the Korean Kimchi Celebration:
http://www.ad2000.org/gcowe95/images/dancers.gif
It is well known that thrice annually, the Cabbage of The Gods (Wong
Bok - sp.: Brassica pekinensis) is harvested by virgins from the
Valley of the River of Ten Thousand Salt-less Tears beyond the area of
Kyonggi-do, but nowhere near Pukp’yongdong.
Great care is taken to avoid disturbing mating salamanders (Taricha
torosa sierrae) who nestle beneath the sheltering cabbage stalks,
embracing in a fervor of ardent amorousness, as they do only once in a
lifetime before the male sadly starves to death whilst guarding his
beloved mate during her long period of gestation.
Six weeks of wild, entranced dancing ensues while the cabbage is
fermenting, during which young males fall into a militaristic trance
of violent frothing and chanting - unrivaled by even pre election
young Republicans of the USA.
As the cabbage reaches a state of hallucinogenic fermentation, the
nation falls into a state of deep prayer and meditation, when
offerings are made to the gods
http://www.benoa.net/Photos/Dimage/Jeju%2068.jpg in hopes that the
virgin cabbage pickers may soon be deflowered. Little newt replicas
are often constructed by children from sticky rice, and kept beneath
their pillows in hopes that they may be blessed by sixteen to eighteen
strong sons with good teeth, when they come of age.
At last, the sacred kimchi is ready for consumption. The nation
awakens from it's deep somnolence, and holds massive rallies in the
streets of the cities - waving banners, holding public weddings of
thousands of couples, and wildly stabbing at the air with placards
displaying pro-cabbage sayings and pictures of old men resembling
Ambystoma mexicanum.

Finally, the sacred hallucinogenic cabbage preparation is placed in
the traditional oven:
http://www.kb-catering.co.uk/acatal...wave_ovens.html
before being consumed in quiet solitary meals accompanied by bowls of
noodles of the familiar 'Ramen' variety.
The post meal aspect of the ritual is somewhat anticlimactic, having
expended so much time and energy in the preceding six weeks of
festivals and near-orgasmic celebrations. Usually, after engorging
themselves on their repasts, bloated Korean folk go off to their beds
and fall into deep slumber, accompanied by vivid dreams of orgies, and
dancing western-style hamburgers.

Nope. But be sure to add some fresh lemon juice and maybe a chunk in
the soak water on the front end. It'll reduce the octane later. '-)

I hovered but any temptation was killed by nipers quick reflexes. Does
bring back a rather comical (only in retrospect) childhood memory.
There were a couple of creeks in our neighborhood and catching crawdads
was a summer pastime with me and my pals. I had one of those sisters
who was a natural actress and any discomfort I might have inflicted upon
her during the day was always ignored until later when our father got
home. Then it was Academy Award time.
On one occasion when my pals and I came home with some crawdads, she was
bugging me so I threw a couple of them at her. She just laughed but an
hour later when dad got home she ran screaming to meet him and sobbed
"Frankie threw some crabs at me."
Unfortunately for me, my father didn't hear "crabs" he heard crap.
About midway through a good beating, I managed to get him to realize the
mistake. Oh..., he says, sorry. Not much has changed with the sister
in the last 50+ years, I don't address her by her given name, I call her
Zsa Zsa.

Tim, you are a connoisseur of the photography art.
Man after my own heart.
- From Start,
To Fart,
Your lens captures the important part.
http://www.lenswork.com/obpexc.htm
- ---excerpt---
BJ: I’m intrigued by this idea: it seems to me self-evident that in order to
photograph with any degree of continuous passion, you must have a
fascination for the subject, otherwise you cannot sustain an interest in
the act of creation for a long enough period of time in which to make any
insightful or original statement about it. And I had to learn this lesson
from you. After you had told me in 1967 that my photographs were "boring,"
as I related in the opening pages, I could stop the struggle to be a
photographer-like-other-photographers. It was such a relief. I began
shooting anew, with a simple concentration on the subjects which most
interested me, with no thought of success, prestige, or reputation, but
with a joyous liberation — which continues to this day.
- ----
Sheesh! I could just taste em. Excellent work. ;-)
