| I will only speak for myself as a recovering alcoholic. The one thing I have
had much difficulty in the past with is in communicating with others. Usenet
is semi-anonymous, we can say whatever we like (more or less) and not get a
black eye for it, nor will anyone walk out the door. We can test ourselves
and others. Sure the body language and tone of voice aspects of dialogue are
inconveniently missing, but, what the hell, I haven't had this much practice
in wordsmith since Canada Post raised the price of a basic postage stamp
from two cents to a nickel.
And never mind the typing practice I get....

Excellent advice. I could relate a horror story or two. When I see 2 people
people "hooking up" as the younger folk say, I cringe...it's just a matter
of time before the relationship becomes dysfunctional and one or both of
them are drunk. Not to say that that doesn't happen when just one of them is
AA. However, in my observation, one's relationship success is a lot greater
when ONLY one of the two is AA.

You are one of the few progressive ones here. I admire that. Communication
with others is almost impossible when no one really wants to hear what you
have to say. Mostly it seems they only read what you write so that they can
take issue with it. People say exactly what they want, no more or less about
it. Hurtful, irreverent, -- it does not seem to matter. I am glad there are
some here that actually indicate that they are in recovery and have a desire
to improve upon that recovery. I personally am glad you are here. It is like
a little bit of sanity shining through the darkness of a state mental
hospital. And if one is really not insane, one needs that little glimmer of
light. I am not so sure people do not walk out the door though. Many
probably walk in, discover the war zone, and leave quietly.

I'm more inclined to think that if nobody wants to hear what I have
to say, it's because what I have to say isn't worth hearing. YMMV.
And yes, I say whatever I want. How others react to that says a lot
about them. How I react to their reactions says a lot about me.
