think of me as The Oracle in The Matrix. I show you what you already know.

i used to live in an upmarket loft apartment not 100m from an NA meeting -
that was back in 1999 (Dec 98 - Feb 2000). I relapsed often and my
attendance at NA was extremely patchy. Anyway I used to often drive past the
NA meeting on the way to score crack. I used to be able to catch a glimpse
of the meeting in progress as I sped by in my upmarket new model Ford Escort
(98 model). I used to smile at the saps inside and think to myself that what
they really wanted to do was go get some drugs like I was doing. I don't
think I was wrong.

I know that most of the folks I met in NA were tense and very tightly wound
most of the time. In fact, people years clean are mostly still like that.
They've been absolutely hanging for years for drugs and it's played havoc
with their moods and temperament.

Drugs have totally ruined them. They cannot unboil their heads. Their brains
have been fried by drugs and now they will hanker after them for the rest of
their lives. They are denying themselves what they ultimately crave and
nothing can satisfy their cravings.

They can only be happy again when they know that they are going to use.

They're hanging for drugs for the rest of their lives.

There is no hope for them. They might as well spend their remaining years
using and at least die high, rather than lead XXXXing miserable lives,
pretending that they're better off now that they are clean.

It's all just so very very sad.
