AA is not not an organisation until they want to thump
alcoholics, thus, "Principles" are a flexible commodity.

Sarge, your sense of humor has grown by leaps and bounds since I started
reading this NG. Congratulations.

I used to choke when I heard people say that as if it was the crux of AA.

"...practice these principles in all our affairs" seems to leave the field
pretty wide open for what's in scope and what's not, don't you think?
BTW, welcome back Virt.

I think I'm rather unsure what you mean by "the field" or "what's in
scope". There's the sole purpose of an AA group, and then there's the
multivarious purposes of AA members quite aside from and outside of
AA. This NG's an exemplary demonstration.

Thanks. But, uh... where was I?

I think I'm sure you aren't really unsure by the meaning of either.

Like sponsors the group isn't necessarily necessary.
An alcoholic and a copy of the BB will do the trick.

Until you add another alcoholic to the combo. Then you have an AA
group, if that's what they want to claim to be. Otherwise, AA members
or non-AA alkies getting together for other things has always been the
case.

That's one of the reasons I prefer meetings over groups.

GROUPS require committment. GROUPS require GIVING something back. That is
why you selfish pricks prefer meetings to groups.

You god-damned right! I ain't committing to anything and I'm
taking...taking it all. Hah ha!
Had you bothered to ask I would have told you I'm not anti-groups ....
I have to disagree with the choice of 'require' because I don't think
groups require...
In fact the reason I prefer meetings happens to be because the
meetings I have been involved in have been made up of individuals
willing to commit (rather than required) and willing to give back
(rather than required).

Glad to be able to provide a chuckle...that has been my main purpose
for being here.
It is interesting how you & northern dimwit have jumped to conclusions
in regards to my simple statement of prefering meetings to groups. Hah
ha!
Both seem to think if one prefers something then everything else is
excluded. Rather one-tracked and limited.
