I was very fortunate to sober up in a treatment center that charged
5800.00 for 31 days and cost me 91.89 out of my pocket. However, I
did start out in AA then progressed to recovery houses and detoxes and
then to treatment. Fortunately 95% of the staff were active members
of AA and so got a full dose of the AA message. Their message to me
was that they could get me physically sober but if I wanted to remain
sober in mind and body that I should get involved in AA. I think that
was pretty good darn advice.

I have not been one to be involved in clubs. However, I did help
start HOW Hall, a meeting facility for AA meetings. We were losing
our meeting locations back in 1987 and so a bunch of us got together
and got it started. I am not active as a member but I do attend 2
meetings there a week.

How I do it today is I am on the 12 step call list at Central Office.
I am willing to speak when asked. I am Alternate District Commitee
Chair of District 6, Mid-Southern California Area of GSO. In the past
I have served on the Intergroup Service Board for two different terms
and this is my third pass through general service. In the community I
serve on the Board of Directors of The Villa Women's Recovery House.
For the most part, I am willing to do whatever AA asks of me. I have
been given a life that I would not have if it were not for AA. I am a
fierce fighter for AA's Traditions. I also believe that I am at the
meetings for me, but especially for the newcomer. I feel sad for
those who get sober and then do not feel a responsibility to give
back. I know people were here for me and I want to be there for the
newcomer.
