I spent the weekend (and most of this week) spring cleaning. What an
incredibly full life!

I did get a taste of the humidity the rest of you have to deal with
right now - most of this weekend I was steam cleaning carpets, blech.

I had to add 'blech' to the spell-check dictionary.

Second weekend in a row that I've been a slothful loser. Lying on the floor in
front of the fan going full blast, watching tv punctuated with very short dog
walks and turning the computer on every couple of hours because I'm worried that
it'll overheat. Oh, and cold showers. Going to the grocery store that's far
away so I could get some air conditioning benefits in the car for about a half
an hour. I should've done something that brought me to an air conditioned
environment but I feel like every ounce of energy I've got is gone.

I XXXXing hate the climate here. I'd guess this heat has been relentless for
about two weeks now and at this point I feel like one bitchy, sweaty mess.

Wow. Well, you do it well.

I've done the car/air conditioning thing, before. My car air
conditioner still works better than any house one I've ever had,
including central air.

hey jean, i was looking at the canadian tire online catalogue before and
they've got some window air conditioners there for under $200. one of them
is only $140, and they say they've got them in stock in 3 stores around you.

They're calling for a real hot summer in Canada. Now is the time to get one
pronto! The alternative is driving around in your vehicle with the AC on
:-/

That was a very sweet thing for you to do cal, thank you, but here's the
problem. The only window I have in my living environ is a sliding glass door. I
could get one of those ones you can get that don't go into the window but those
suckers are very, very expensive. Plus my roommate has one and he was saying
that even with that deluxe model in there, it's still hot. I think that has
something to do with the fact the portable versions don't do much to the
humidity.

Plus for whatever reason, I don't sleep in bedrooms. It's just too lonely in
there. Here I've got a fold out futon in the living room and my bedroom remains
empty. Well. Messy.

The good news is that this is breaking tomorrow. I hope it breaks out there
too. It makes me want to cry, really. I actually did cry yesterday and it was
purely from feeling so uncomfortable for such a long period of time. It's like
living in chronic pain, almost.

The low for tonight: 30, not even counting the humidex. That's insane.
Tomorrow, the low will be 17. That's fantastic.

central air works ok in this condo bldg so far (knock on wood). in the old
house i used to live in, i could never really get the coolness up above the
ground floor. they said to get a stronger fan, but warned it would sound
like a helicopter.

like the power supply fan in one of my computers today, actually.

I think it's an important part of life. I try not to descend into whining
though I'll do that is things get bad enough (like with this mofo'ing heat).

Small environment maybe? Mine works great and it kicks in fast so I took the
dog out for a little ride at lunch time. Poor dog just lies on the kitchen
floor like some stuffed animal that pants all day.

A woman I knew in New Jersey use to do that LOL. Thing is I hate driving.
Granted I'll drive to get where I have to go but just going for a ride in a
car never was relaxing for me.

We have those sliding sideways windows at the house so we had a problem
finding an air-conditioned that would work. (Other than the bathroom which
wouldn't really cool the house from there and you'd have to sit on an icicle
toilet seat if you rived it up in there). The only other window was a
really small one at the base of the picture window. I did finally find a
small unit that would just fit in there (it was close though). (It's about
the size of a basement window). I think if it was just a matter of an inch
or half inch I'd have considered taking that off the trim around the opening
(which a landlord might not notice if you painted over it). Fortunately we
own the place though and if push came to shove I'd have nagged Andy to cut a
spot in the wall! What is the size opening of the window you do have?

It's really horrible when you can't find a cool place to sleep at night. (I
remember that from New Jersey). In the summer it could be a major factor in
the race riots of the 60's in the NJ cities).

Orphan Annie is bulking at going outside with this heat (Spike could care
less it's just out for fun in live and let the conditions be damned). She
was limping around yesterday and I swear she was being dramatic so we
wouldn't require her to go out.

i've been wondering how those things worked. for some reason i thought they
had dehumidifiers in them. oh well.

something i've done in the past is to freeze bottles of water in the fridge
and then put them behind the fan. also, fill the bathtub with cold water
and put a standing fan in front of that, with the door open. these are
big-city small-apartment tricks.

our weather says rain with a low of 21 tonight, high 30 tomorrow, and then
down to 24 on weds. and 21 on thurs. whew.

just a tiny bit of wind and it feels different. otherwise i have a huge
amount of very small oak trees growing on themselfs here, you want me to
send them to you in a very speedy mail???

be well and cool !!!

LOL I thought of that when I wrote it <G> It's a question of whether it
would be cheaper to drive around in the car filling up the gas tank with the
god awful expensive gas or stash it away for an AC. <G>

On the land we tend to get a breeze in the afternoon. Unfortunately when
the temp is up in the 90's it's a hot breeze. Today was very very muggy. I
have a little bit of running around to do tomorrow and then I might check
out what's growing in the veggie garden there. Andy says that with the
rain, heat and sun the corn is almost to his knee (usually it's knee high
July 4th). The roses are blooming nicely in the back yard, as are the iris.
The trillium is finished now but the lillies are just about to bloom along
with daiseys :-) Looks pretty from an airconditioned house LOL

here it is very pleasant, warm but not too much, plants are also growing
very well and i have put some kind of sunflowers for decoration and they are
getting up nicely as well, i enjoy sitting outside but i am missing books
now, so i have started an inquiry about public library, discovered that
there was none in my village, but a bus was coming 3 times a week next
village, so i will go and register.
they have told me that i can ask any book i want to read, only if they have
to order it, i might have to wait 6 months - but it is totally free
so..!!!!!
before that time i might well have founded some job or studies to do !!!

the only thing that are burning here are the politics ;)

satya
sleepless again grrrr

Well, not to brag.............
(and you *know* when people say that, they are going to) }

On my 90 degree weekend, I dug up and replaced a good part of my sprinkler
system.
Why?
This is my first season with the new garden area I've been working, and the
water wasn't reaching the squash.
I *will* have both fried green tomatoes and fried zucchini this year! }

Every time I hear about fried green tomatoes - I think about Cathy Bates and
really good insurance. Heh ;-)
