Euro-twits finally coming to their senses?
______________

European countries disapprove of Muslims: Study
Vijay Dutt
London, December 20

A recent survey has led to the startling revelation that Muslims all
over Europe are being viewed with high levels of disapproval.
Researchers asked 1,000 people in 19 countries. According to their
assessment, Sweden emerged as the most pessimistic west European
nation. Seventy-five per cent Swedes questioned said that there was
"definitely a lot" of disapproval of the community.

Britain is relatively more tolerant. Just 39 per cent of those
questioned said they believed that a significant number of people were
opposed to the Muslims. In Holland, 72 per cent said there was a lot
of disapproval, and in Denmark the figure was 67 per cent. On an
average 52 per cent of people surveyed across western Europe believed
that there was a large-scale unhappiness about Muslims.

Such a finding has caused a lot of concern. An estimated 13 million
Muslims live in 25 countries of the European Union. The reason for the
disapproval is not just 9/11. The continuing fear of Al-Qaeda attacks,
the recent stabbing to death in Holland of the radical filmmaker Theo
van Gogh by an Islamic extremist and the Madrid train bombing have
deepened the disapproval of the community members.

Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin, deputy director of the Islamic foundation based
in Leicester said the study "reflects the general perception now
prevalent in the society". He added: "Anyone who has the well-being of
society uppermost in his mind cannot but feel deeply concerned at
these findings." He fears that Europe is replacing its anti-semitism
with yet "another cancer - Islamophobia".
