What's odd is that quarantine was commonplace until around the early 20th
century. I remember a PBS documentary on Typhoid Mary and how she infected
thousands before newly-empowered health authorities tracked her down and
shipped her off to a quarantine island off the coast of New York. She was
there for years before the public was "enlightened" and began viewing her
as some sort of political prisoner and finally I think the governor was
pressured to release her. She was released on the condition that she never
work with food, a term she agreed to, much like today's AIDS patients agree
to practice "safer" sex. Then another typhoid epidemic broke out and they
once again traced it to a kitchen Mary worked in.

To those who claim quarantine for HIV and TB is unnecessary because people
can be "educated" to behave safely around others, how much education would
Typhoid Mary have needed before she realized that she shouldn't prepare
food for others? If New York health authorities had spent one million
dollars "counseling" her during her years in quarantine and that didn't
work, would two million have worked? Would ten million or billion or
trillion have been enough counseling to educate Mary? Or perhaps she was
just a big XXXXtarded dumbass like most AIDS patients today, and should
have been locked up for everybody's protection.
