Millions of life-years saved

| The latest edition of the journal of Infectious diseases documents how
many life-years have been saved through the use of antiretrovirals.
here is the editorial comment - you can link to the article as well.

Does the article bother to estimate how many additional people were
infected during those extra years of alleged life the ARV drugs
provide? What exactly is the purpose of keeping one million people
alive and collecting disability checks and expensive medical benefits
so they can infect millions of more people who will also require
disability checks and expensive medical benefits?
In fact, I notice that the media and even scientific journals avoid
this subject like the plague. Scattered reports claim that the ARVs
drop the viral level so low as to make the person almost non-
infectious, yet I'm not aware of any formal study that shows that
partners of HIV+ patients taking ARVs have a lower incidence of
infections. Worse, the HIV patient may believe he is not infectious
and dispense with both condom and partner notification (though even
before ARVs they didn't care enough to do either). But the truth is
that some people with HIV who are taking ARVs will transmit their
(now drug-resistant) virus to others, something to think about before
praising the scientific advances that allow them to occupy space for
a few extra years.

But of course the counting could be much more accurate:
Undiluted HIV tests show that everybody is HIV+
About 300,000,000 Americans survive each year.
Put everybody on ARV and ARV will save 1,500,000,000 life-years during any five years span
in US only.
AIDS sience: greatest human progress of all times.
Why was AIDS not discovered before 1981? Because until then intelligence was too
widespread to give the developpement of the Acquired Intelligence Deficiency Syndrome more
than a snowball's chance in hell.

Because no one was paying attention to the black sub-Saharan Africans,
maybe?
I doubt you have the courage of your "beliefs." Take the AIDS challenge
and report back in 10 years.

You doubt what? Don't I prove clearly I have the courage of my beliefs by writing them
down openly in a world filled with nerds who would rather hang me from a tree than get
their rusty brains working?
Taking the aids challenge! What challenge? Have an injection of a liquid containing HIV?
But there is no such thing as a liquid containing HIV!

Hey! Now there's a thought. We can just kill all HIV+ people. I'll bet
Bush would go for that idea!
Bravo. Brilliant Final Solution, eh?
And then we can carry on and kill the 40 million HIV+ around the
world. And while we're at it, let's get rid of some other pesky
individuals who Some Don't Like.
Bush and Rove and Cheney will no doubt help you out in your Crusade.

Who uses undiluted HIV tests as a diagnostic?
Thank heavens every other diagnostic test works 100% of the time and
are all completely infallible. It's only the HIV test that has
problems!
Wow. The list is filled with brilliant commentary today!

That's the challenge, Jan, sweetums.
On the HIV causes AIDS side, we can say a tube of blood from an HIV+
person has lots of HIV in it. Perhaps for timeliness, we can use a
virus that is an X4-receptor utilizing HIV.
You can say "la-dee-da" no it don't!
And we can say, fine, a small injection then dear, yes?
And let's see what happens!
Gosh. If you're right....why nothing at all!
And gosh, if the rest of the planet is right...you'll probably die of
an opportunistic infection.

Come on Carter! Bush doesn't have to go for that idea, people like you do
it already.
Telling someone is HIV+ after a dummy test and then feed him AZT and the
like does the job perfectly.

From my perspective, you helped kill David Pasquarelli with your
denialist nonsense.
By contrast, not all HIV+ people are "fed AZT" and even when people do
use AZT, it doesn't kill them. To the contrary, people may take
several antiviral drugs, based on their clinical condition and the
number of CD4 cells (and/or percentage). This prevents opportunistic
infections from developing.
When people do NOT have access to ARV, including AZT if needed, they
wind up developing OIs. And dying.
Like David Pasquarelli. Like so many South Africans that died because
Mbeki is a stubborn fool and fell for your line of bullshit. Or maybe
he just wants to see his people die.

Georgie, the day you understand that you are a stubborn fool yourself in
the eyes of those you think are stubborn fools, you will start to progress.
