Insulin storage while traveling

| Hi Group
Anybody got a good idea how to travel and still keep your insulin cool. I am
thinking mainly of long distance flights and staying in places with no
electricity or a fridge.

You're more likely to get an answer on alt.support.diabetes .

For a day in hot Boston sun, my daughter and I are using these zippered foam
packs, about the size of a small thermos, with a pair of coldpacks to swap
out with the one in the freezer. They're a bit bulky, but work well: you do
need to not put the freshly frozen coldpack in it for about half an hour, to
avoid freezing the insulin (which I did once!)
For places without electricity, life gets more interesting. Swamp coolers
can help, but depend on having a good breeze to get the water to evaporate
to cool it, and staying out of the sun. Very few places in the modern world
are entirely without electricity, for something like a 12-Volt
car-lighter-jack powered Peltier cooler, though.

>Hi Group
I did try alt.support.diabetes but it seems to have been taken over by
militant Christians and Americans who think Bush is for peace. I was not
impressed - just a few good posters there.

Alan, several years back I got a tip from one or these diabetes
newsgroups about a small pouch that simply uses the heat of solution
process to maintain a cool environment for insulin vials. I have used it
over many trips with good results.
The product name is "Frio." It's from an English manufacturer.

Just wanted to say that my Frio pouch is a legitimate "miracle
product" IMHO! (No, I don't sell them but I am a very satisfied
owner!)
They work through evaporation, so the hotter the environment, the more
cooling effect. You just soak in a small bowl of cool water every
couple of days for a few minutes and you're "good to go."
Eliminated a lot of stress traveling.

Hi Group, Many thanks for the info ref Frio. It has been well tried and
tested by me and I was lucky to find a shop selling them close to where I do
my weekly shopping.
Once again grateful thanks
