ester C is a misnomer. it is not an ester. it is the calcium salt of
ascorbic acid.
other chemicals are added, but that is it.
this is from the ester c web site and the patents listed therein.
the first patent lists the procedure for making the calcium salt, and
lists studies as to retention.
if retention is your concern, buy the cheapest vit c and take several
doses during the day.
