patient, couldn't the doctors consider abandoning it? Manic depressives are
now bi-polar. There is a precedent.

this is simply the lumping / splitting problem and which is common to almost
every taxonomic attempt. you can have 1 billion types of schizophrenia [1] or
you can have one. it's really academic and should be assessed on a
case-by-case basis.
